Each project at merath begins as a question — tied to a memory, a place, a human relationship, or a cultural phenomenon that deserves documentation and renewed interpretation. Thirteen inquiries currently shape the practice, each unfolding through research, collaboration, and form.
Publishing is a core practice that shapes merath. In the independent press, we choose what we print, how we print it, and what kind of object the printed thing wants to be — books, manuals and editions moving across eight series.
Workshops, talks and public events are the mechanisms through which we engage our community — learning opportunities and a space to think and experiment collectively, in the studio in Tripoli and well beyond it.
Our mission began by wanting to make work: we use the resources we build as a collective to make artworks, films, performance pieces and other creative productions, and to carry them to audiences across the region.
We publish reports and visions for the future of cultural infrastructure and museum development — research commissioned and self-initiated, offered as working tools for institutions and practitioners alike.
Archives are central to what we do — organising, cataloguing and preserving private and larger collections so they can be shared as public resources, and building the tools that keep them alive.
